Back to School Season
Set your student and your school up for success in this back-to-school season.
1. Request a 504 plan or review an existing 504 plan. This establishes a list of accommodations to support your student in participating in school activities to the fullest possible extent. You should know what meal times will look like and have a plan for food-involved activities.
2. Provide teachers (and other caregivers!) with easy-to-understand information about your student. Create an info-sheet for each teacher (more info below). Teachers and other caregivers love this easy-to-understand information sheet!
3. Prepare your student for situations they will encounter. Practice meal times, what to say, and who they should say it to if they feel uncomfortable or unwell. Work together to determine alternative options for special treats.
